The Georgia Smart Communities Challenge (Georgia Smart) is an award-winning program that encourages local communities across the state to develop, test, and implement new practices that contribute to a smarter and more sustainable future. In March, the four current communities — Sandy Springs, Savannah, Clayton County, and Valdosta — each presented on their projects’ progress at the midpoint of the year.

In mid-February, winter storm Uri swept across Texas, leaving millions of civilians without water and electricity for days. In the weeks following the storm, there was a lot of discussion what went wrong in Texas and what could have been done mitigate the post-storm challenges and accelerate recovery efforts.
